I love this! The OFC POV is very fresh and with few strokes you paint very well the climate of fear and oppression. It left me with a very vivid image of what it would feel like for a low class Numenórean at that time, not really being able to afford a choice for one side but with no enthusiasm for the other. If feels very true to life - makes me think of memoirs of civil wars and especially of the Cultural Revolution, for some reason. The barely-there relationship with the unnamed woman was a poignant note too. Thanks so much for the entry.

Thank you! The poor so often have much fewer choices, don't they? Although sometimes even the rich and powerful don't have choices left to them.
