Ican't believe that, with all the detail youhave pulled from the books, you have apparently never looked at a map of middle earth. I don't care if you make up places, but when you use mapped locations at least get them right. I have been pushing through my annoyance with you for the sake of the narrative. But really, Morgul Vale is WAY south of the Black Gate...opposite Osgiliath.
That you had Thranduil and Anoriel Trysting in Imladris is ludicrous. They would have been spending 6 out of every 8 weeks on the road...for ONE NIGHT!!
I know you wrote this a while ago, maybe you've matured, or maybe you are too clueless to edit for accuracy.
Have you actually READ Lord of the Rings? There's a map in the appendix of Return of the King.
A very touching bit of info on Oropher and his doomed love. It's not often a story makes me actually pity him!
Author's Response:
I was wondering who blessed me with the new review. Should have known, since you promised:) I shall keep hoping that the story will make you pity many more elves and men who are usually not pitied. It is lovely to read your review, knowing that you read till chapter 3. To be fair I will warn you that the pace does not pick up until it is Chapter 5 or so. It is a slow one.
But I am glad to see you here, and I am off to hoard this review.
I hate Galadriel lady..How can she do this to Elrond? Oropher, I like him! Thranduil is a wonderful character.
Erestor is a true diplo guy. The way he is hsaring blame and everything. I think I like him!
I love the beginning, I wonder how Elrond will get to be with Erestor. Loved your style of writing. Not too slow, not too fast. Thranduil is remarkable.
Hi! Had the pleasure to read your story in one go. Can't believe it's your first attempt as it is written so well. I liked it a lot and started 'The Song of Sunset: The Third Age' right away and can't hardly wait for you to continue.
I especially enjoyed your description of everyday life and the development of the relationships/friendships. To my mind Isildur and his boldness were a little bit overdone but he certainly made a good 'bad guy'. :-)
Hope you will write a LOT more to come! Thanks for the story!
Author's Response:
Hello There!
I am glad that you liked the story. Reading it in one go! Wow, It must have been tiring. Yes, it is my first attempt at writing. I am so happy that you left feedback. It means a lot to me.
Isildur's picturisation was something I needed to move the plot along! Not that I have a personal vendetta against him...
paged forward cause as i rule i like to read as one unit then realized that it might be easier on you if the comment was close to the subject.
your closing of this chapter is something that has been missing from my concept of how-why thing is as they is.
thank you for making the mirror clearer, now i see the image in more detail.
Author's Response:
I am glad that you liked the story so far! Hope that you like the rest of it too.
Thank you for yourr feedback and enjoy LoM!
Once again I was reading it from start to end. Marvellous. I mean the way you managed to put together all those threads starting from the 1st sunset in Lindon where Elrond falls in love to the last sunset when they are in Imladris after making love....I was amazed.
It's simply incredible how the characters are made to each have their own personalities and fitting in with the larger pic.
The Song Of Sunset according to me is the single most sensual, touching, angsty tolkien fanfic. LOL! I really feel that your final note describes the fic...
I wanted every character to be grey having their own virtues and failings. Regrets, circumstances and desire make each character in my story what they are.
You have done a great work out there....keep it flowing!
The best fanfic story I read! waiting for the next age. This rates a 10 on 10
As Gil-Galad prattled on, Elrond wondered about the lack of complexity and heart break in Sauron’s life.
Loved that sentence...you have a way of making Elrond as normal as everyone else.Usually he's so noble.
Cool! A great beginning...cant wait to read more.
This fic doesen't seem too long! (but my review is, sorry) I'm already waiting for the next! But don't hurry, I'd better wait and have good chapters. And, above all, you must have fun writing it!
I didn't understand really how much Glorwas suffering for Melorian until now. But hope he'llget over it.
Millennia of love... millennia... of silent, unselfish love. It's simply too much to figure out for us mortals, but you managed to give the idea.
I'm happy you choosed Elrond and Erestor, they're simply made for each other. And it doesen't look like a first attempt, it's too good!
There's only one little thing tha left me unsatisfied: the lovemaking between the two... there was like... something missing. The last moments of their relationship are too... don't know. Maybe it's just that I'm shocked by the fact the fic is over and by their gettin together. I'm telling you not to discourage you, but because I respect your work and hope it will always be good as it has been until now.
I'm starting to love Celebrian! And Glorfindel as well! The first part made me laugh heartily!
What the hell wants Isildur now?! He's the only one character you can't make me feel sorry for, as lovellegolas said in the review of the last chap...
...you left me speechless... as usual...
it was an amazing chapter, Eresrtor and Elrond are soo noble, tender and sadly in love, you make their feelings echo into my heart. Galadriel is turning out a great character, strong and defective, but I don't hate her anymore, as I did in the firs chapters. I could carry on talking about the perfection of the plot and the humanity (I know it sounds stupid: they are Elves! but I think you understand what I mean) of the charactersbut I believe I've already written too much.
I give up! You made me sorry even for Isildur at the end...I had started to hate him. Thought that he was one character you made totally villain. Now at the end even I pity him too!
Glad that Elrond and Erestor are finally together.
I can't wait to read the Third Age. Knowing you, it will be perfect. Sort of difficult to belive it is your first story! Its pro stuff.
Best work of fanfic I've read...and I've been lurking a long long time!
Elrond and Celebrian atleast put up with each other. Good. Happy for Thranduil too, he suffered a lot. Anoriel is a great match for him. Much better than any Mary Sue nonsense. Wonder what Isildur wants know!
Happy that Erestor and Elrond are finally together somehow.
I didn't know that Galadriel sung that tragic song first! You do weaving threads so well, bringing each character in some way to the same point! Glad that Galadreil helped Elrond and Erestor get together...but feel pity for Celebrian and for Gil and for Celeborn too
And poor Galadriel, how will she manage to forgive herself? She is alone.
Thats the point ; i feel sort of sorry for every character when you write them..
Oh no, I'm not the first to review!;-)
Well, as always the chapter is beautiful, and intense. You made me love the charachters like there were my own kin... and the story goes very smoothly with the one written by Tolkien, so everything seems just perfect even when very sad.
I agree with lovelegollas about Elrond.
Will he evere be happy?
Anoriel and Thranduil are perfect together, I want them to be happy till they sail at the end...their love is so perfect..loved the part where they meet....
Ah, I beat Ered to this...
Oh so touching, I feel so sad for both Elrond and Erestor. You have made Elrond seem so noble, the way I have always pictured him...
And poor Celebrian also.
Oh! A cliff hanger, wonder what Elrond will do now?
Feel worried for Erestor, and wish Gil hadn't died. You made it look so real, I was able to imagine him facing Sauron bravely knowing that he was gonna die, it was amaazing.Waiting to know what Elrond will now do.
Ered beat me to the new chapters! It is simply great, you manage to picturize the sad battle through your characters while underlining their different personalities, Glorfindel is singing and bantering with Erestor. Elrond is noble. Thranduil is brave.
Anotehr great chapter, loved the way Elrond was stroking Erestor's hair andGil is going to die, Though I don't like him, I wish he didn't have to die..
Wow, can't wait for more!!!
I wonder why Gildor and 'Fin quarreled.
It took me several minutes to regain enough control of my mind to write a revew... It's just... stunning... I was waiting for the description of this battle and you didn't disappoint me. You even managed to make me be sad for Gil's death!
Great story, really great.
I'm sooooo happy you have updated. I loved this chapter, as usual!
Galadriel is so wicked! Poor Elrond.
Wonder what Celeborn is proposing a deal for?
Nice start, Elrond has fallen in love at first sight!
Stunning, as always. There isn't much that I can say, after witnessing Oropher's death... It was heartbreaking. And all the battle was really great: I can't wait to see the rest of it.
Thranduil is lucky to have great friends. Once again you make your story stand out by the friendship factor! Great going.
Wow, its so touching.. And tragic. You have done it well! Poor Thranduil.
I know Oropher will die because so far you have kept close to canon, but still you manage to keep the readers on the suspense.
Even knowing that Oropher was going to die that was a very moving and heart-rending set of chapters. My heart goes out to Thranduil.
Your telling of what happened is very well done. I look forward to the next installment...although, perhaps I should not, for I know who else will fall...
It is so good, but I dont like Isildur, Gilgalad and Galadriel. Your writing of their friendships is very beautiful
Oh Valar... the last chapters were incredibly drammatic. I HATE Isildur!!! He's such a nasy, base, filthy human... Anyway he's a good character, as all the others. They may not belong to you, but you used them in a most perfect way. I agree with lovelegollas, the way you describe friendship is great.
I hate Isildur and I don't want Oropher to die. Skipping the chapters where he dies.
Great chapter. I hate Isildur! How can he insult Oropher like that?
Why was Elendil just simply standing by? I wish Thranduil and Anoriel just sailed for Valinor after the battle.
Another thing I like in this series is the deep friendships of Erestor, Elrond, Thranduil, Glorfindel etc. You have made it look so natural.
Great going, but I wish Oropher won't die. He doesn't deserve to die.
It is yet another great chapter. You blend all the characters so well. Oropher and Thranduil's talks are always my favourite. I wish they did not have to go for the battle.
Elrond is a noble elf. I wish Erestor sees his love and then they get together finally. Its sad to see Elrond suffering like this.
And I hate Gil-galad. He does not make a good mate for Erestor. Can't wait for more.
Yes, I have received your mail, I don't generally check that particular account, thats why. And another great chapter!!
Keep writing.
I am glad that you are enjoying the story. It is my first attempt at fiction of any sort, and I was not sure of the thing. Your feedback has made me so happy! I have tried contacting all of you, those who have reviewed using the e-id you have provided at LoM accounts. I hope you have all received my thank you mails. And long reviews, I crave them!
I know technically I am not supposed to write this in the review column of my own story, but I have no idea where else you check regularly,
JDE.
I love this story.
Poor, Gil-Galad, he's a useless king for his people and a completely useless husband for Erestor. He has all my simpathy. I hope 'Restor and Elrond will be able to get together sooner or later! They already love each other, that's for sure.
Elves are so nice when they blush...
I didn't understand that the valley of the refugees was to become Imladris! Did Tolkien talk about it or is it your idea? Because is really great, I never heard about it before.
Sorry for writing such a long review!
Thranduil-Anoriel pairing is excellent. Their love seems so pure. I am sad that the war is starting.
The Elrond-Oropher scene was hilarious! All the characters have deep multilayered personality. But Isildur is wicked!
Good chapter, this is better than most fic stuff! All the pairings are deep and woven into the plot. Congrats to LoM and the author for this great story. Waiting for more!
It's said that people often understand how important things are only once they loose it... well, my computer has been broken for a few days and so I had to stop reading your fic. I confess: I'm Song of Sunset-addicted!! It's simply great!
Anoriel, Thranduil pairing is incredible! The way they are in love is cool. Are you a professional writer? Cos this is damn good for a beginner.
Phew! Elornd kissing Oropher! good plot, better as it goes on. Hope to read more soon!
