Date: December 15, 2008 Title: Chapter 28: Chapter 28. A Watchful Peace 1
I laughed throughout all the chapter. I laughed in amusement, I laughed hysterically, I laughed softly. Mostly I was hysterical, through. You'll drive me mad!
We have a reunion of The Marriage!! Oh Valar!! I mean: Galadriel and Celeborn?? Together?? You did a great job with them. There was the right amount of sadness and angst and the right amount of lust and fondness. They're extraordinary characters, but they remain believable.
As for Elrond, Erestor and the Doors Slayer... humph, Balrog Slayer, they performed the funniest scene of the whole series. I'm speechless! This was a great chapter and that part was the best!
Also the sweeeeeet twins calling 'ada' both Erstor and Elrond were not to be missed!
I also liked the way you slipped into this daily life part hints of the important events and wars.

You know, here in Italy we have a lot of problems with the powerful Catholic Church menacing afterlife punishment for love as for a sin, but the Valar are so so bitter that make it look kind. They're the real "bad guys" here, not Sauron or Melkor.
“Elrond, I can explain”... it made me laugh! It seems a lot like a line from a husband-and-wife-joke!
“Indeed”, Elrond laughed, “I could not see a patch of skin underneath all the grime, melme, what was there to be enticed with?”
Are they actually laughing together? Being happy? Just chatting about the twins? Unbelievable! This is going to keep me in high spirits all day tomorrow.
Speaking of the twins... Lovely! "Elladan is walking unsteadily. Elrohir, I am afraid, has made our study his domain. He thinks he understands all the scrolls. I have not got much work done" so sweet.
Glorfindel. Melorian. I was about to cry. It's heartbreaking to see Glor so sad, expecially because I have a special fondness for him, but also because you wrote about him really well.
“I will accept your offer. But not the lady’s. Where she is going at the end, I don’t fancy ending up there.”
I didn't like Thranduil laughing about her fate. I mean, I know he meant no offence, but just thinking about the doom of the Noldor makes my sense of humor suddenly die.
And I was almost forgetting our wizard! I like him every chapter more. The fighting scene was great, absolutely perfect.
And... well, I could go on for quite a long time writing how much I liked this or that part, but I believe I've already bored you long enough quoting your own words.

I was struck by Galadrie once again. I admire her decision and pity her fate. Maglor's words made me very sad. I expeccialy liked the first part of the chapter, and found the second well written but a little repetitious.
I can't wait to read the next chapter... but I've a lo to do... You always keep me really interested in the story.

I'm not so sure Amroth's choice was so brave... and I think he was mad following that Nirodel... she should have never taken him away from his kingdom. I hope that now Celeborn will take charge of Lothlorien so Anoriel will be able to return to Thranduil.

No, no, no! Not Anoriel! Oropher's fate all over again... It seems the Noldor aren't the only cursed...
At the beginning of the chapter I was laughing merrily because it seems that everybody knows about Elrond and Erestor save their children and Celebrian, but then it came the wraith's attack. Everything turned dark and I was about to cry. The battle scene is simply great; Erestor fighting with the child in his arm is something deeply moving.

I loved the last four chapters equally, some parts are very sad, but they're great chapters.

I really like how the story is evolving. You stick to canon, but at the same time you make things tangled and more interesting than ever. The last part was... I... I hate Celebrian!
And two other parts I particularly like are:
“I won’t, Ada”, Laiqua laughed as he danced his mare out of his father’s reach, “I think we might try human blood in our bloodlines next. What say you?”
“THAT WILL BE THE DAY I DISINHERIT YOU!” Thranduil roared as Laiqua laughed again and galloped away to join the front of the escort.
...and Mithrandir and Erestor's talks are great.
“What an insightful opinion”, Erestor murmured sardonically, not raising his eyes from the scroll, “And what brings you here on such a fine day? It seems excellent weather to pick an argument with Elrond, as is your wont on such days.”

I'm at school (I found some free time, yay!)...
This chapter is one of the best. Celeborn was horrible to Galadriel, and that was a highly dramatic part; while the last part, with Laiqua and the twins... In the moment Elladan says they should stay out of love appears Laiqua. This makes me wonder... As lovelegollas said many chapters ago, they may be the next couple... who knows? Your subplots are unpredictable, and I love this fact.
And The Marriage is over...

Very very nice. Galadriel is so brave... and Celeborn... I don't know what to think about him. Whereas, I perfectly know what to think about Erestor: he's a noble soul, a fascinating, handsome Elf, and one of the best characters.

I cand do nothing but bow to you. Really... the characters are so real, I can feel what they're feeling. It's just like in real life: you know someone has done you wrong but still you don't hate him/her... and... this chapter was somehow different from the rest. Time really passes and leaves traces in your story. The millennia that divide this chapter from the first are almost visible.

Oh, well... I run out of praises long ago. I'll just try to tello you how much I love the Song of Sunset, but as usual I won't be able to express how much I feel involved in this story, how much I care about every single character, how good are you at managing all of them...
First I must apologize: it took me a lot of time to read this chapter, and I left to the last one a really pitiful review. But these days I'm always running...
The best part was the first, the discussion. I felt like I was in that room, like all of the elves were my relatives, and there was a claustrophobic feeling that hit me.
Then Mithrandir, his "upper attic" and his discussion with Thran are great!
She should have known that he always ended up enmeshed in tangled love affairs.
Yes, we know... Poor 'Restor.
And what have Laiqua and Dan seen??

One of the best chapters ever. I was almost sceaming thinking about how much time Elrond's love has been wasted, and how stupid has been Erestor not understanding it. And how sweet is to hear loving words from Erestor... and how nice is his meeting with Thranduil... and... ok, I'll stop now.

I'm re-reading the very first chapters and I noticed that everything is linked, every single word has a precise meaning for the plot... and I was almost in tears when I read of Erestor confessing that he had always liked Elrond (well, we actually knew it, but he never said anything...), because I had just translated their first sunset together (ok, the depressing music didn't help, but really... reading The Consequences of a Sunset after A Midnight Meeting is an astonishing experience)

How could she... how...?? She was proud of her intelligence? Proud of what?? She didn't even understood who was the elf her husband had always loved!

I loved this chapter. Things are more relaxed, but not less interesting. We're discovering still more sad loves... But the calm of Thalion was reassuring. This is another thing I like about your writing: not all loves are burning passions, not all of them are sad... you manage to be so realistic!

Poor Mel and poor Erestor. It really seems that someone *Ered stares at the Valars disapprovingly* has the vice of putting Erestor into complicated sentimental situations, either with his own heart or with his advice.
And poor Rumil, too. He loves the elf with the most entangled marriage in Arda! By the way, these are the chaptes in which I like this marriage most. You're doing a great job!

I loke Thranduil and Galadriel's relationship, and the way you portrayed it.
I've already fallen for the twins. They seem so sweet, still untouched from the evil ot the world, whatever 'Bria says about her mother holding them. Galadriel made many mistakes, but she never meant the suffering they cause, and anyway she's very brave.

Shouldn't Isildur's heirs be living in Rivendell by now? I'm not as good as you with the canon, but I kinda remembere they should be there.

Isildur's heirs, they are in Rivendell...but what Erestor meant was that he had no interest in them because of all that Isildur made him suffer..

I must confess that is not your masterpiece: I love how is written, but everything happens just too fast. Anyway, this fic has got something magic: the way characters are portrayed makes them so real that I feared to find Glor and Thelion sparring into my room!
And it has an happy ending. I usually pretend to be tough... but happy endings make me feel incredibly good :-)
